Semana Santa
Holy Week in Spain is taken extremely seriously, with all manner of Easter celebrations and festivals across the country. “Penance processions” by many different religious brotherhoods in each area characterise Semana Santa celebrations. Members of the brotherhoods wear penitential robes (including a tunic and conical-shaped hood) and carry processional candles and tremendous floats with religious sculptures, which each group shoulders from the church of origin, around the designated procession route and back.
Particularly notable Semana Santa celebrations in the Murcia region are held in Cartagena, Mula, Jumilla and Lorca.
