Aena, the management company for Corvera Murcia Airport and other airports across Spain, has announced that Corvera made a turnover of 1.6 million euros during the first quarter of 2019. The news of this success has been welcomed, as Corvera Murcia Airport only opened on 15 January this year. Domestic flights and other operations were moved from San Javier Airport, and Corvera Murcia Airport has continued to grow since it opened, welcoming more flights from different airlines including Ryanair, Jet2 and Norwegian.
The contract for Corvera Murcia Airport has been awarded to Aena for 25 years. The company currently operates all but one of the airports that provide passenger flights in Spain. During the first three months of this year, Aena has reported a consolidated profit of 136.4 million euros and a turnover of 903.5 million euros. Aena has also announced that its profit is 22.7% higher than the first quarter of 2018 with an increase in turnover of 7.3%. Operating costs have risen by 4.5%, though the company’s earnings have also increased by 7.9%.
Currently, the proportion of revenue generated by Corvera Murcia Airport will be smaller than other airports across the country as it has just recently opened. However, Aena expects to see a significant increase now that summer flight schedules are in effect.
